Security guards at the National Institute of Public Information in Kaduna escaped death by whiskers on the early morning of Friday when daredevil criminals tied them up to carry out the vandalism of the transformer in the Institute compound.
Reports from the area alleged that the criminals, whose numbers cannot be ascertained, entered the premises in the wee hours of Friday, removed the transformer cables, stripped them of their valuable components, and fled the scene without resistance.
The elderly security man, “Maigadi,” who did not sustain any injury, said the thieves, whom he believes entered through the back fence, came straight to where he was staying and held him, tied him, and threatened to slaughter him if he made any noise or attempted to scare them away.
He alleged that the thieves might have come with a vehicle to carry out the vandalism of the transformer at the Federal Government Old Institute.
In another development, another set of transformer thieves attacked the Narayi village in the same wee hours. It removed a transformer and the cable without anyone daring to stop or confront them.
The police public relations officer in Kaduna was unreachable when writing this report.
