Christian leaders in Northern Nigeria have extended their heartfelt congratulations to Muslims worldwide as they mark the beginning of the Islamic New Year (Hijri 1447), emphasizing the importance of peaceful coexistence and religious tolerance.
While appealling to the Federal Government of Nigeria to consider declaring the Islamic New Year a national public holiday, allowing Muslim faithful to celebrate with joy and reflection.
A Kaduna-based pastor and General Overseer of Christ Evangelical and Life Intervention Ministry, Pastor (Dr.) Yohanna Buru, congratulated Muslims across the globe and called for intensified prayers for peace, love, and unity in Nigeria and West Africa at large.
Speaking during a visit to Muslim scholars on Wednesday, June 26, 2025, Pastor Dr yohanna Buru said the gesture aims to strengthen interfaith relationships and promote peacebuilding efforts between Christian and Muslim in the state and country at large
According to him, it has become a tradition to share thousands of peace messages through his social media platforms each Islamic New Year, reaching out to Muslim friends and relations with goodwill and prayers
He urged citizens of Kaduna State to continue living in harmony, supporting the government’s initiatives to foster peace and unity.
“Nigerians must show tolerance, forgiveness, and support the government in promoting national unity while addressing ethno-religious, political, and regional challenges facing the country.
We must remember, that We are one family under God,” he said.
“We all believe in the Holy Bible and the Qur’an. Therefore, we congratulate the Muslim Ummah around the world. On the arrival of this year new Islamic Year ”
In a similar message, Pastor George John urged residents of Southern Kaduna to embrace peace and mutual understanding.
He extended his greetings to Muslims worldwide and prayed for an end to the ongoing conflict between Iran and Israel.
Meanwhile,Mallam Gambo Barnawa,a Muslim cleric expressed gratitude to Christian leaders for their solidarity and goodwill at this year new Islamic Year
“The celebration of the Islamic New Year is not just for Muslims, but for all of humanity,” he said.
This year, 1st Muharram, marking the beginning of the Hijri calendar year 1447, falls on June 26, 2025, subject to the sighting of the moon. The Islamic New Year commemorates the Hijrah (migration) of Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) from Mecca to Medina, an event of great significance in Islamic history.
