A former Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria and gubernatorial aspirant in Anambara State, Prof Charles Soludo today narrowly escaped an assassination attempt in his hometown of Isuofia, Aguata Local Government Area of Anambara State.
The attack took place at a youth event in the town which had Soludo and other dignitaries in attendance.
Unfortunately, three policemen who were his personal guards were brutally killed in the attack while witnesses disclosed that the Anambara State Commissioner for Utilities, Emeka Ezenwanne was allegedly abducted by the gunmen.
Confirming the incident, the Anambara State Police Command Spokesman, DSP Ikenga Tochukwu said that the command is currently gathering more information about the ugly incident with a view to bringing the perpetrators to justice.
A source who spoke to Daily Episode and was present at the event revealed that Soludo escaped unhurt and is safe while refusing to disclose the whereabouts of the former CBN Chief.
The Southeast Region of Nigeria has in recent times, be plagued by incessant killing of mainly security personnel, which has led the Inspector General of Police, Mohammed Adamu and other security chiefs to deploy elite tactical teams to fish out the gunmen.
The move has so far yielded results with the arrest and parading of about 16 persons including two pastors who were responsible for killing of some security men in the east.
