In response to a viral video depicting a security guard’s participation in jungle justice, the Nigerian police have issued a stern warning to citizens, urging them to refrain from such criminal acts.
Jungle justice, characterized by individuals or groups taking the law into their own hands, has been globally condemned for promoting violence and undermining the rule of law.
However, a statement by force by PRO Olumuyiwa Adejob on Monday cautioned citizens against the act while emphasizing the dangers and negative impact on the administration of justice and the rule of law.
According to Adejob, “the police have already arrested Agunbiade Adekunle, the security guard involved in the recent incident that happened in Lagos State, where he was allegedly involved in the act of killing and setting ablaze a vandal.
Currently, the guard is in our custody and will soon be charged in court for murder.
I therefore urged all citizens to refrain from extrajudicial killings, and other forms of vigilantism as mostimes the actions hinders smooth investigation and prosecution of cases.
But, the police will not relent as all criminals will face the wrath of the law if they don’t repent”. Adejob added.
