A 40-year old drug dealer identified as Lami Mai Rigima was arrested on April 4th by the Nigerian Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) with highly intoxicated drugs in Traba, a northeastern state of Nigeria, months after placing her on a watch list.
Until her arrest, Lami was a notorious drug lord who specialized in supplying psychoactive substances to numerous drug dealers within and outside the state of Taraba.
However, the anti-narcotic agency revealed it began searching for Lami after successful arrests of some drug dealers in the years 2021 and early 2022 when some of the suspects fingered her as their prime supplier, NDLEA spokesman Femi Babafemi disclosed.
She was later arrested by the operatives after tracing her to a hideout in the Iware community of Ardo Kola local government area of Taraba State.
From her supply chain, the NDLEA also re-arrested Abdullahi Madaki, a drug dealer who returned to the criminal enterprise after he served a jail term on February 13th, while Jamilu Hassan, a middle-aged man, was also nabbed on February 24th, 2022.
The NDLEA also stated that it arrested 50-year-old Emeka Okiru in the Mubi North local government area of Adamawa state.
Okiru, who is a transborder drug trafficker, was arrested with 32,700 tablets of Tramadol 225mg with a disguised identity as Royal and Tramaking while trying to supply the illicit to a neighboring Cameroon republic.
The number of drug abusers and investors trading these narcotics and other banned drugs is rising daily in Nigeria. However, NDLEA arrested four people with cocaine, amphetamine, and cannabis in their custody. The suspects are identified as Korede Ahmed, Adetola Tosin, Abdulgafar Nureni, and Akeem Kazeem in Oyo state.
On Monday, April 4th, NDLEA agents recovered 172kg of cannabis from two suspects: Zaidu Mohammed Kamba and Hussaini Dauda, in the Kamba region of Kebbi state.
