In Bauchi, patients seeking medical attention are exposed to danger, as the Bakarkuka Health Clinic, a place meant to be a solace for citizens battling with illness in the Itas/Gadau Local Government Area, has grown to be a trap due to its deplorable condition, where citizens have no option but to risk survival from illness.

In the facility, patients risk living under wide cracks in walls, with damaged ceilings and collapsing floors, and have no access to hygienic toilets or clean water.

Beyond infrastructural shortcomings, the hospital, which at least 15 neighbouring villages encompassing more than 3,000 citizens solely depend on, has only two staff members available with no equipment.

This is coming at a time when Bauchi State is hit with a cholera outbreak, where at least 258 people are infected and 58 are confirmed dead in September 2025.

Daily Episode, gathered from Tracka, a public accountability organisation in Africa, which stated that the crumbling facility is the only hope for more than 3,000 residents.

“Lives are threatened by the dilapidated building daily; this is the time to wade to avoid a looming disaster at the centre.

While calling on the Bauchi state government and the federal government to ensure every citizen enjoys quality health care service, Tracka further urged Bakarkuka commuters to hold their leaders accountable and follow due process in ensuring Bakarkuka Health Clinic benefits from the third phase of the BHCP funding by the Federal Ministry of Health.
