The National Population Commission (NPC) has said that it may conduct another national census in 2022.
NPC Federal Commissioner in Gombe State, Abubakar Danburam, revealed this on Tuesday during a press conference.
He spoke on behalf of the chairman of the commission, Nasir Kwara.
Abubakar said the NPC so far has completed demarcation in over 600 local government areas out of the 774 in the country.
Once it completes its demarcation and administering questionnaire process, the NPC chairman said it would suggest the census to President Muhammadu Buhari.
“It is within the purview of the President; we can’t precisely say this is the date. However, we are embarking on pre-census activities.
“These are the efforts we are making because the census is necessary. We are on the verge of completing pre census, maybe in the next year. We will suggest a date to Mr. President and we are targeting maybe 2022.”
The last census conducted in Nigeria was in 2006.
