The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) has begun distribution of food items to the victims of flood following heavy flood that swept away thousands houses and claimed lives in Agwa Hausawa and Tiffin Madza areas of Mokwa.
The relief materials were shared with the affected victims at the local government’s secretariat in Mokwa, which was led by Alhaji Aliyu Waziri, director of the North Central Directorate, and Air Commodore A.K. Oyong, director of Search and Rescue (DSAR).
NEMA HQ Abuja During the flag-off, some of the relief items were symbolically presented to selected affected individuals.
Other items were handed over to the Niger State Emergency Management Agency (NSEMA) and the Secretary of the Mokwa Local Government Council, Muhammad Jiya, who also serves as the Chairman of the Distribution Committee, for further distribution to other affected persons.
Other members of the distribution committee present included Sarkin Hausawa Mokwa, Alhaji Tanko Bala, and representatives from Jumma’at Nasir Islam (JNI).
Stakeholders in attendance were the Nigerian Air Force, Nigerian Police Force (NPF), Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), International Organisation for Migration (IOM), and the Nigerian Red Cross Society.
The distribution exercise underscores the commitment of both NEMA and humanitarian stakeholders to promptly support and bring relief to disaster-affected communities.
