Niger State Emergency Management Agency has confirmed the death of 151 victims of flooding in the Angwa Hausawa and Tifin Mada areas under the Mokwa local council following a devastating flood that swept away lives and properties worth millions of Naira.
Daily Episode had reported how heavy floods swept away many lives and submerged houses on Thursday.
In a message sent to our reporter, Hussaini Ibrahim, the spokesperson of the Niger State Emergency Management Agency, updated Daily Episode as of 9 am, 31 May 2025.
Ibrahim said that 151 victims have been confirmed dead, while 11 were injured.
“Number of deaths, 151; number of injured, 11; and 3,018 displaced so far, he said. Number of affected households: 503; 265 houses affected, with 3 communities affected,” his message reads.
He further stated that a total of two roads were washed away with a number of 2 bridges.
The deputy governor, Yakubu Garba, visited the scene of flooding yesterday, assuring victims of providing relief materials would be provided to them, adding that the government would take responsibility for the medical expenses of victims in the hospital.
“We have records of those who lost their lives, and there are those who are still missing. Those who are still unwell, we give the chairman to take them to the hospital. And if anyone is taken to the hospital, the government will pay for their expenses,” Garba said.
He further urged the Mokwa council chairman and NSEMA to take records of victims for the government to pay for their medical expenses.
“The chairman and NSEMA should take records. We will pay for medical expense”s, he said, adding that the federal government has also provided relief materials to those who can’t feed themselves.
