To track the whereabouts of a missing person after a petition by a family member to the independent Investigation Panel on EndSARS, the panel asked NDLEA to produce suspended police DCP Abba Kyari on March 22.
The suspended police DCP, Abba Kyari, was arrested by the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) following cases of drug trafficking as released in a video as evidence before journalists in February 2020.
However, the panel asked the NDLEA to produce the suspended DCP Abba Kyari after statements by a witness who claimed Abba Kyari promised to respond to their demand after they arrested their family member went missing.
The victim was arrested in 2019 by the Police Intelligence Response Team headed by the suspended DCP Abba Kyari, which led the family to petition the Investigation Panel on EndSARS as they are still in doubt about the life and whereabouts of their family member.
The aftermath of the court
Mr. James Idachaba, Counsel to the Police, argued while the court resumed its sitting that the police could not produce suspended DCP Abba Kyari while he’s suspended and no longer in police custody.
But one, Halilu Adamu, noted that Kyari is in the custody of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) after the panel received information from a witness who revealed that Kyari promised to get back to him but failed to do so.
According to Mr. Martin, “According to the witness, Kyari purportedly promised to contact him regarding the missing persons, but nothing has been heard about them since then.
In response to the summoning order for Kyari, he stated, “The above orders apply to three people who were purportedly detained and apprehended by the IGP-IRT detention facility.
“Yakubu Danjuma, Ibrahim Daniel, and Choji Dung’s whereabouts are still unknown.”
