A viral claim on X alleged that a pilgrims’ flight heading to Saudi Arabia from Mauritania crashed, killing all 210 passengers on board.
An X user, @Ibrahim_Salanta, who has 139.4k followers, posted on Tuesday that a Mauritanian flight had crashed en route to Saudi Arabia.

Another X user, @GovernorDonJay posted on Tuesday with a caption that 210 passengers were confirmed dead.

Findings by DAILY EPISODE show that the claim is MISLEADING!
When fact-checkers ran a keyword search, several news outlets reported that Mauritania’s director of Hajj under the Ministry of Islamic Affairs, El Walt Taha, debunked the claim.
Several media organisations, such as Ummid.com, an Indian outlet, reported that Mauritania’s Hajj official debunked the viral claim, including Blueprint newspaper.
Further searches revealed that @Khaledmahmoued1 tweeted that Mauritania denies rumour of pilgrims’ plane crash.
“All our flights are safe,” El Walt Taha said.
Mauritania’s Director of Hajj at the Ministry of Islamic Affairs, El Waly Taha, said that all Mauritanian pilgrims are safe and have arrived in the Holy Lands without any untoward incident.
“When Daily Episode searched further, Mauritania Airlines also debunked the claim in a Facebook post.
“Some foreign social media pages have been circulating deliberate rumours about a plane carrying Mauritanian pilgrims crashing off the Red Sea, which is baseless health news.
“Mauritania Aviation confirms that all the Mauritanian pilgrims have thankfully arrived in the Holy Lands safely and safely, and no incident has been recorded regarding organised flights in this frame.
“The company has organised three flights in a row, on 23, 24 and 25 May 2025, as part of a plan to transfer Mauritanian pilgrims to Saudi Arabia.
