Former General Managing Director of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) Maikanti Kacalla Baru has died.
A source from his family confirmed the death of the former NNPC GM.
NNPC General Managing Director Mele Kyari confirmed the death of his predecessor in condolence message he posted on his Twitter account.
Kyari said: “My cousin and friend and mentor, Dr Maikanti Kachalla Baru, the former NNPC GMD died last night. He is a role model. May God forgive his mistakes and have mercy on him.”
Born in Misau, Bauchi State, in northern Nigeria in 1959, he attended Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, 1982, where he studied engineering.
He started working for the Nigerian oil company in 1991 and grew to the NNPC.
The Chief of Defense Staff, Kacalla Baru, has held the position of NNPC General Managing Director from 2016 to 2019 after serving in various oil fields in Nigeria.
