The government of Borno state in North East Nigeria has vowed to resettle the internally displaced persons in the state due to insurgency.
The Chairperson of Borno State Emergency Management Agency, (SEMA) Hajjiya Yabawa Kolo, gave a brief at the on-going press briefing in Maiduguri the state capital.
“Our vision this time around especially this year 2020 is to resettle all IDPs if possible to achieve zero camps.”
In an effort to actualize that vision, ”the state government has built 4,287 number of emergency shelters in Damboa, Bama, Monguno, Dalori , Gwoza, and Gamburu Ngala.
“In addition, the government has constructed 500 housing unit part of social protection and also increased the resilient Support of human feeding of the IDPs we were able to distribute number of social items.
“We have empowered more than 120 female IDPs, 327 petty traders in addition with the physical challenged persons all this is to restored livelihood.”
Meanwhile, Commissioner for Sport Youths and Empowerment, Hon. Sayinna Buba also gave the scorecard of the ministry during the press briefing.
He said: “When we came on board we met the El- kanemi sport centre in a dilapidated manner we quickly embarked on rehabilitation and regressing of the field.
“The ministry has sponsored a team to participate in the Afan cup, a tournament played in Kano where 40 teams of the premier league participated and Borno state played in the final.”
Furthermore, the commissioner made it known to the public that El- Kanemi warriors and Ayemba football club are the only teams in Nigeria that feeds its players yearly as motivation to claim back the past glory of the two clubs
“The ministry under the leadership of Professor Babagana Zulum was able to pay fourteen million five hundred thousand (N14,500.000.00) allowance of the El- Kanemi players.
“The ministry in collaboration with the state government hosted the North- East games for the first time in 34 years.”
