Kanye West, award-winning rapper and entrepreneur, says he will contest the US presidential election billed for November 3.
The record producer took to his Twitter page to break the news — a development that would likely come as a surprise to many of his fans.
“We must now realize the promise of America by trusting God, unifying our vision and building our future. I am running for president of the United States! #2020VISION,” he wrote.

His presidential bid announcement had immediately got the backing of Elon Musk, CEO of Tesla, Inc, an American electric vehicle and clean energy company.

It was not immediately clear if West, a known supporter of Donald Trump, US president, is serious about his post.
It was also not clear yet if he had filed any official paperwork to appear on state election ballots.
The 42-year-old’s post comes about two months after he declared he would be voting for Trump ahead of the poll, citing a booming real estate market as a key reason for his support.
“I’m definitely voting this time. And we know who I’m voting on. And I’m not going to be told by the people around me and the people that have their agenda that my career is going to be over,” he had told GQ Magazine in May.
If the announcement is anything to go by, it means the rapper will be challenging Trump and his supposed rival Joe Biden, former US vice-president, at the forthcoming election.
