.An angry resident attacked and burnt a divisional police station in the Rano local government area of Kano State on Monday, May 26.
Daily Episode gathered that the incident occurred following the death of a citizen identified as Abdullahi Musa in police custody.
Musa was arrested for allegedly breaching traffic rules; an eyewitness laments how he died during interrogation.
According to the eyewitnesses who pleaded anonymity, the divisional police officer, Mr Baba Ali, ordered the officers to assault the victim, a situation that led to his death.
Musa is not a criminal; he’s a God-fearing man with moral values, but unfortunately, the police who are meant to protect lives and properties are responsible for killing him for only breaking a traffic rule.
No one should have burnt the police station or broken the law, but what triggered the violence was the police who opened fire on the public for a peaceful demonstration.
However, two people were shot in the process and were rushed to the hospital for medical support.
The gunshot sound triggered people reinforcement, as youths in their numbers gathered to overpower the police, a situation that led to the burning down of some sections of the police station, vehicles and other valuables.
On-the sport assessment, the police commissioner in the state, CP Ibrahim Adamu Bakori, observed the situation and assured citizens of an investigation for proper justice for all.
Daily Episode confirmed police patrol vehicles and other valuables were burnt from pictures released by the state police public relations officer, Haruna Kiyawa following a visit to the police station alongside the police commissioner, local government chairmen and other dignitaries.
