At least 18 persons were killed in Myanmar on Sunday as security forces open fire on a crackdown on pro democracy protesters.
It was gathered that the security forces employed live fire against the protesters who had been protesting against the military coup on February1 which overthrew the democratically elected government led by Aun San Suu Kyi, who had been placed on house arrest since then.
Score of her political allies and supporters has also been arrested NY the military who had also launched a brutal crackdown on nationwide protests which has grown in numbers daily. Myanmar has also witnessed internet blackout as the military seek ways of preventing further protests.
The United Nations Human Rights Office on Sunday, condemned the killings and called on the military leaders to respect the fundamental human rights to peaceful protests by Myanmar citizens.
“We strongly condemn the escalating violence against peaceful protesters” the UN body said.
Earlier on Saturday, the junta announced that it had fired the country’s ambassador to the UN, a day after he made an impassioned plea to the international community and urged them to “use any means necessary to take action” against the military rulers to “restore democracy”, adding that he represents the democratically elected government of Suu Kyi.
