N’Djamena, Chad— Report from the Chadian capital city, “N’Djamena,” indicates that commando unit armed men attacked the presidential complex on Wednesday, January 8, 2025, leaving at least 18 of the armed men and one security personnel dead, Daily Episode sources confirmed.
Security forces in the state had repelled the attack launched by the armed men who had tried to overrun the Chadian presidential complex compound.
Daily Episode gathered from the official announcement that 19 out of the 24 commando units were illuminated in the unsuccessful attempts on the presidential complex.
Foreign Minister Abderaman Koulamallah, who doubled as the official spokesperson of the government in an interview with AFP, revealed the figures of the 18 persons killed by the country’s security forces, as six persons sustained serious injuries, including the Chadian security forces, who lost one person, and three others sustained minor injuries.
Koulamallah, seen surrounded by soldiers with guns in his possession in a video, said, “The situation is completely now under control; their attempt was completely repelled by our gallant troops.
The commando unit armed men are suspected to be members of Boko Haram, a terror group, as Koulamallah jokingly said they seem like “probably not” terrorists, describing them as drunken “Pieds Nickeles”—a reference to a French comic featuring hapless criminals.
They, the “Boko Haram terrorists, confronted our soldiers before trying to gain access to the presidential complex, where they were defeated by our gallant troops, who arrested those who survived serious degrees of injuries and were completely drugged”.
Despite being a country ruled by the military, Chad experiences Boko Haram attacks regularly, especially in the western Lake Chad region, which shares borders with Nigeria, Cameroon, and the Niger Republic.
Recall that Chad has recently cut off military ties with their colonial power, France, and for internal security concerns, the Mahamat Idriss Deby-led military ruled that France had manipulated and interfered in the conflict ravaging neighbouring Sudan.
However, Deby has also changed his portfolio and reshuffled his cabinet to retain power without external glitches while having a new tie with China, Hungary, and Russia.
