Unidentified gunmen have attacked the Kabba medium-security custodial center (MSCC) in the Kabba/Bunnu local government area of Kogi state.
The gunmen reportedly attacked the correctional center at around 11:35 pm on Saturday, September 12.
Daily Episode reliably gathered that the gunmen freed about 240 inmates while an unidentified number of soldiers were killed during the attack.
The gunmen engaged and overpowered the military at a checkpoint near the correctional center to gain access to the facility.
However, the gunmen broke a fence around the facility to free many inmates.
Mr. Francis Enobore, the spokesman of the correctional center noted that the gunmen invaded the correctional center in their numbers and immediately engaged armed guards in a fierce gun battle.
The Nigerian army spokesman, Mr. Nwachukwu, did not respond to journalists when contacted, according to the Peoples Gazette.
Although security operatives have since launched a manhunt for the criminals, investigations are ongoing, Mr. Francis Enobore added.
