As terrorist activities advance to jeopardize the lives and activities of Nigerians, the Global Peace Foundation advises on the need to initiate solutions to end terrorist recruiting of Nigerian youth.
Many youths are secretly joining terrorist groups like Boko Haram and armed bandits in northern Nigeria, especially in Niger State, which is more worrisome, the Global Peace Foundation country director, Rev. John Joseph Hayab, revealed.
Rev. Hayab, who is also the chairman of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) Kaduna State Chapter, disclosed this at the Interfaith Dialogue Forum in Lapai local government area of Niger State, which was held on March 16, 2022
However, the Dialogue Forum was organized to orient the general public, especially Nigerian youths, considering the rise of communal and ethical violence, religious intolerance, political thuggery, and violence amidst terrorist recruiting.
The youth need to be educated on the importance of living with one another in peace, love, and tolerance, and also need to be taught to exchange ideas and strategize ways to further strengthen the bond that exists between them.
In attendance at the program were religious leaders, traditional leaders, as well as different civil society organizations with higher numbers of both youth and the mentioned organizations.
Furthermore, the Rev. Noted that Global Peace Foundation (GPF) Nigeria has been instrumental in working with community stakeholders to strengthen community solidarity and mitigate violence in Nigeria, and Hyab, who was represented by Ahmadu Shettima, a member of staff of the organization, said discouraging youths from joining terrorist groups is the sure way of stemming the scourge.
He also calls for the attendees and the general public to engage in solutions to every arising problem that may hinder peace and unity among one another.
