Troops Eliminate 15 Bandits, Apprehend 48 Others
In two weeks, troops operating in the North West and North Central regions of the country apprehended 48 bandits and killed 15.
Brig.-Gen. Bernard Onyeuko, the defence spokesman, said this in Abuja while addressing journalists on military activities between October 29 and November 11.
During the period under review, 42 kidnapped victims were rescued in various operations across the zones, he said.
He added that 12 different weapons and 77 rounds of 7.62mm ammunition were seized during that time.
According to Onyeuko, troops maintained constant vigilance with constant land and air patrols during Operation Safe Haven to deny criminal elements freedom of operation.
Despite minor pockets of incidents documented in specific locations, he said the general security situation in the Plateau had been quite calm during the period.
During that time, he noted, troops rescued 33 abducted victims from bandits and apprehended 23 criminals.
According to Onyeuko, troops continued to conduct clearance and raid operations in sections of Benue and Nasarawa states, resulting in the arrest of nine bandits, the killing of two, and the rescue of three victims as part of Operation Whirl Stroke.
He said the troops eliminate 15 bandits and found 19 weapons, including AK-47 rifles, machine guns, two locally produced handguns, six additional rifle magazines, and 79 rounds of ammo.
