Kaduna, Northwestern Nigeria – A tourism expert, Tobi Bernard Thomas, has lauded Governor Uba Sani of Kaduna state over his Bus Rapid Transit project in the state.
The expert said that if completed, the project will boost economic growth, open up new destinations, and improve the overall tourist experience in the state.
Thomas stated this in a statement made available to newsmen in Kaduna on Monday. In it, he explained that a robust transportation system is crucial for tourism, as it facilitates accessibility, connectivity, and ease of travel.
The commendation was coming a few days after the Kaduna state government announced its plan to embark on a dedicated transit corridor from Kawo Bridge to Sabon Tasha.
The state government had also said that the initiative is a game-changer for the economy of the state and urban development.
Highlighting the crucial role transportation plays in the development of tourism, Thomas who is a critical stakeholder in the industry noted that Efficient transport systems (airlines, trains, buses, etc.) connect tourists to various destinations, making it easier for them to reach attractions.
In his words, “reliable transport options reduce travel time and effort, making it more appealing for tourists to visit, and connections between different modes of transport (e.g., airports to city centers) and enhanced the overall travel experience.”
“transport is a vital component of the tourism ecosystem, influencing how easily and attractively destinations can be accessed and experienced. By enhancing accessibility, convenience, and overall travel experiences, effective transport systems can significantly promote tourism growth.”
While congratulating Uba Sani on the initiative, Thomas who is the Kaduna State Coordinator of the Federation of Tourism Associations of Nigeria (FTAN) emphasised that the project represents a shift towards a modern, efficient, and environmentally friiendly transportation system that will enhanced mobility, stimulate economic growth, and create job opportunities for Kaduna residents.
Though, the expert noted that a period of three years allocated for the completion of the 24Km BRT Corridor project was too much for such a project.
