In the wake of ethical practice of journalism, the Kaduna council of the Nigerian Union of Journalists has taken a new dimension in promoting professionalism while providing a conducive environment.
The council, which had the first female chairman in the northwest, Hajiya Asma’u Yawo Halilu, has upgraded the council’s secretariat while equipping it with modern facilities, establishing a sporting gallery, and befitting a hygienic restroom.
However, the union’s national president, Chris Isiguzo, and the national president of women journalists, Ladi Bala, both visited Kaduna to launch the tremendous projects executed by the Asma’u-led administration, as they both recommended the projects while congratulating journalists for giving a game-changer opportunity to rebrand the union.
While addressing journalists shortly after the Council’s Award and Lecture Day ceremony, held at the council secretariat, Asma’u noted that the council’s leadership recorded the achievements from the overwhelming support of members as well as donors and partners.
She also emphasizes the welfare of journalists as her primary responsibility and charges members to adhere strictly to the ethics of the practice, as the council will not accommodate negative stories or members who engage in such, especially in this election period.

While the national president expresses satisfaction and confidence in the Asma’u-led administration, style, and determination to bring back the council to its past glory, resolve the dispute with aggrieved members, and establish a sporting gallery that will ultimately unite members
However, Daily Episode interviewed some members of the state council and the national president of women journalists.
According to Mr. Isaiah Benjamin, the correspondent of the Leadership Newspaper, one tree cannot make a forest, but in unity, unexpected development will be achieved.
He applauded the administration of Asma’u, believing that she had done more than one could imagine. The council would have been a small London had the previous administration tried on such a thing. He added
A correspondent with Plus TV, Habila Mika Darofai, noted that a word cannot describe the good things we are seeing with expectations of many more from her remaining years in office. He called on more compatriots to support the council while pleading with members to dwell on solutions journalism.
But the NAWOJ President, Ladi Bala, recommended the role of women’s leadership. Asma’u has proven to the world the competency and power of women’s integrity.
