The Senegalese team from the West African region has claimed the battle to win the 2021 African Cup of Nations (AFCON) for the first time in history.
It was a man-to-man professional match played by both Senegal and the giant Egyptian team at the African Cup of Nations final in Cameroon.
After the match lasted 90 minutes without a score and an extra 30 minutes of head-to-head, the Senegalese team surprised their Egyptian counterparts with a final goal from Sadio Mane that counted as a 4-5 victory against the Egyptian team in the penalty.
Although Senegal felt they had an early lead through Mane, after Mohamed Abdelmonem fouled Saliou Ciss in the box, Mane missed the penalty. Following that, Mane’s Liverpool colleague Mohamed Salah was seen talking to Abougabal, most likely providing information on where Mane would be firing it.
Mane missed the penalty before summoning the courage to re-enact a chance to secure his country’s place in the World Cup.
Abdelmonem’s bad luck continued as he missed a penalty kick, which struck the post and placed Egypt behind. Abougabal came to the rescue for a little while, saving Bouna Sarr’s take before Mendy made an outstanding save on Mohanad Lasheen’s. As a result, Mane was able to secure the title.
Sadio Mane, on the other hand, may be named Africa’s best player after overcoming adversity to defeat Egypt’s Mohamed Sallah at the 2021 African Cup of Nations.
