Countries ruled by the military junta in West Africa, which comprises Mali, Burkina Faso, and Niger Republic, have commenced the process of withdrawing from the region’s Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) in 2025.
This was contained in an announcement by Alie Touray, the ECOWAS commission president, this Sunday, 15 December 2024, during the 66th Ordinary Session of Heads of State and Government in Abuja.
According to Touray, the country’s exit will be a process between the month of January 29 and July 29 in the year 2025; thus, the given durations will further give both parties engagement on diplomatic intervention, he said.
