In a sweeping decision aimed at upholding constitutional integrity, ethical standards, sanitize the Council, and reposition the Nigerian youth constituency, the National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN) has officially expelled Amb Sukubo Sara-Igbe Sukubo from the Council following serious allegations of misconduct, financial impropriety, and constitutional violations.
According to a letter dated June 10, 2025, signed by the Acting Secretary General, Comrade Rikki Nwajiofor, the expulsion was based on the findings of an investigative committee mandated to probe various allegations leveled against Amb. Sukubo. The report highlighted multiple breaches of the NYCN Constitution, unlawful usurpation of duties designated to the National Financial Secretary, and the alleged issuance of a dud cheque amounting to ₦200 million to the NYCN.
The letter further accused Amb. Sukubo of being involved in the unauthorized alteration of provisions in the 2018 NYCN Constitution (as amended), among other violations.
Compounding the situation, the NYCN National Secretariat referenced a formal expulsion letter received from the Rivers State Chapter of the Council. The state chapter’s decision was grounded in Article 9.1 of the NYCN Constitution and provided additional backing to the national body’s resolution.
The NYCN, citing Article 21.3, Section A, Subsections i & iv of its 2018 Constitution (as amended), stated that Amb. Sukubo is now permanently barred from parading himself as the President or former President of the Council in any official capacity.
In another turn of event, in the letter received by the media, the NYCN has suspended Amb. Innocent Nduanya (Deputy President) and Abubakar Suleiman Esq. (Secretary General) based on “allegations bothering on gross incompetence cum inability to discharge their constitutional duties in addition to abating several constitutional breaches committed by Amb. Sukubo Sara-Igbe Sukubo.”
This development marks a significant shake-up in the leadership ranks of the NYCN and is seen as part of broader efforts to sanitize the institution and reinforce constitutional discipline within one of Nigeria’s foremost youth advocacy bodies and the umbrella of all youth organizations in Nigeria.
