To strengthen civil society engagement across the country, the Kano State Civil Society Forum conducted elections on Saturday, July 8, 2024.
The election, held at the secretariat of the Nigerian Union of Journalists in Kano, was peaceful and in accordance with the organisation’s constitution.
However, after the election, the electoral committee began with vote counting as Muhammad Bello was declared president after gaining votes against his two counterparts.
Speaking to the Daily Episode, the president-elect, Muhammad Bello, disclosed that his role as president of the Kano Civil Society Forum will focus on providing solutions for Kano citizens and Nigeria at large.
According to him, “it is a primary responsibility to engage in dialogue with the government and other key authorities to implement significant changes that will foster positive development across all sectors.
We have advised and offered lasting solutions to our predecessors regarding leadership roles, citizen rights engagement, and the responsibilities of the civil space. Therefore, I assure you that we will include everyone and make Nigerians proud of our role as leaders of the Kano Civil Society Forum,” Bello revealed.
Also, the auditor-elect, Bar Fatima Aliyu Chabir, encourages citizens to join the civil space to strengthen civic activities, stay informed about their constitutional rights, and embark on a humanitarian journey.
Chabir, who emphasises the need for women’s participation, encourages the active involvement of women, as they are crucial to societal development. At the Kano Civil Society Forum, the leadership is open to all citizens and groups or organisations, Chabir added.
Similarly, treasurer-elect Maryam Garb Usman outlined their action plans as they take charge of the Kano civil space. In a remarks during an interview with a Daily Episode correspondent, she disclosed that “as a member of the executive committee, I will advise and influence the committee to include everyone in decision-making.
Regarding the utilisation of the organisation’s resources, as treasurer, I will ensure financial security and accurate spending,” Usman stated.
