The German Football Association, DFB on Tuesday announced the decision of the German national team and World Cup winning coach, Joachim Leow to step down from his post after the 2021 European Football Championship.
The DFB President, Fritz Keller announced that the decision of the coach to step down will give the association the necessary time to name a new coach for the team calmly.
In a statement, Leow said he was full of “pride and enormous gratitude” for the opportunity to manage the German national team for 15 years, having guided them to win the 2014 World Cup in Brazil.
He said he is still highly motivated as ever and plan to bring down the curtain on his time with the team by winning the this year’s Euros.
“I still feel the will, great energy and ambition. I will do my best to make our fans and happy and successful in this year’s Euros tournament” he said.
Meanwhile, many prominent names have been mooted to be among the shortlist of successors to Leow, among whom are current Liverpool boss, Jurgen Klopp and Hansi Flick who is the coach of German Bundelsliga side, Bayern Munich.
