The Federal Government, on Monday announced that it is seeking for extra funds through a supplementary budget in order to procure more arms for the armed forces and COVID-19 vaccines.
This was disclosed by President Muhammadu Buhari when he met with the Senate President, Ahmed Lawan and Femi Gbajabiamila, the Speaker of the House of Representatives at the State House, Abuja.
Speaking with journalists after the meeting, the Senate President stated that the legislature and the executive are of the same belief that a supplementary budget is necessary to tackle the shortfall of COVID-19 vaccine procurement as well as to purchase more arms and platforms for the armed forces to deal with the challenges of rising insecurity in the country.
Lawan, who also disclosed that while the country is expecting the delivery of A-29 Super Tucano fighter jets as well as Armored Personnel Carriers from China and Jordan, it will not be enough and more funds are required.
” We still need to approve more resources for the purchase of of weapons for our armed forces because this is the number one priority of government or any government really, to secure the people and of course, later, their welfare “.
