Election: Northern Group Asks Emefiele To Contest 2023 Presidency
A coalition of northern groups has asked Nigeria’s central bank governor, Mr. Godwin Emefiele, to contest the 2023 presidency.
The groups who lunch a campaign and support group in Kaduna, Northern Nigeria on Sunday, March 6th, in a rally with campaign banners and posters.
The coalition, comprising 40 groups from the region, said they would work for Emefiele to succeed the incumbent President, Muhammadu Buhari after his tenure.
The groups noted that Emefiele’s introduction of the Anchor Borrowers program for rice farmers across the country endeared him to their hearts.
The program, the youths said, had pulled hundreds of the poor from the poverty line over the years.
However, the groups’ spokesperson, Aliyu Muhammad Sani, while addressing journalists shortly after a rally held across Kaduna metropolis on Sunday to drum up support for the CBN boss, noted that Emefiele’s policy formulation has over the years assisted greatly in growing indigenous industries such as Dangote Peugeot Automobile Nigeria Limited, Olam’s Industry, Vicampro, Tomato Jos, Gujeni Integrated, among others.
He said, “The unified Northern Nigeria Youths Forum is a coalition of 40 socio-cultural, socio-political, and socio-economic groups with members spread across all the wards of the Nineteen Northern States and the FCT Abuja.
The essence of our gathering and street procession today is to call on Dr. Godwin Emefiele, the serving Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, to aspire for the number one seat in the country to enable him to consolidate on the gains our country is making.
“Reasons for calling on him to contest includes but are not limited to: He introduced the ancho-borrowers scheme which has helped to massively reduce poverty that was seen to endemic in our region through the provision of farm inputs and one digit interest rate facility.
“His policies formulated have enhanced the establishment of many industries in our region worthy of mentioning are, Dangote Peugeot Automobile Nigeria Limited, Olam’s Industry, Vicampro, Tomato Jos, Gujeni Integrated, Iron Ore Mining and Processing Plants, Tiamin Rice Mill, MAFA Rice just to mention but a few. This also has created employment and wealth in our region.
“Despite the sharp fall in oil price in 2014-2016, the economic nationalism of Mr. Emefiele helped our states to stay afloat thereby preventing job loss while making it possible for states to carry out capital projects.
“His Interventions and policies of the CBN have made our country self-reliant in Rice and maize production. In few years to come, we shall begin to export these products thereby further strengthening our currency.”
