As Christians around the world celebrate Christmas Day, which is the birthday of the Lord Jesus Christ,
The President of the United Church of Christ in Nigeria (UCCN), Rev. (Dr.) Amos G. Kiri has called on faithful Christians not to forget why Jesus Christ came to the world, stating that he came to serve the world from eternal death, and for that reason, Christmas is full of merry-making.
Thus, Christmas is the birthday of Jesus and not the birthday of any person, so Christians should not spoil Jesus’ birthday with negative activities that will not glorify his name.
However, Rev. Kiri also called on Christians not to be part of the world where Christmas has been turned into a period of showing up, borrowing money to buy new clothes, drinks, foods, and partying in a worldly manner.
Furthermore, the birth of Jesus is a time of celebration because the savior was born to save humanity from their sins. Therefore, Christians should not turn the celebration into something that God will not be pleased with.
Insecurity And A Plea To The Government
For the rising insecurity in the country, the Rev. Amos G. Kiri applauds the efforts of security forces while urging them to do more until Nigeria experiences zero level of security threat.
He, however, appealed to the government on the issues bedeviling the lives of Nigerians. Rev. Amos stated, “I would like to take this opportunity to join the chorus of Nigerians lamenting the country’s deplorable state of insecurity.” We rarely have a day that passes without hearing of the loss of innocent lives by this country’s kidnappers, bandits, herders, and unknown shooters.
Some people have vowed to kill innocent people at will. Farmers cannot go to their farms without facing the threat of being killed. Because of this, most farmers have not been cultivated. This gives room for the escalation of the price of people’s basic needs, especially foodstuffs.
In Nigeria, life has become unbearable for ordinary Nigerians. In light of this, I am calling on the government to step up with new strategies to curb the worsening insecurity in Nigeria.
Moments When Christians Praise the Almighty
Adama David, a faithful Christian worshiper, was interviewed by Daily Episode correspondents. She thanked the Lord Almighty, who spared her life to witness this year’s Christmas as she enjoyed other Christians being faithful to the Almighty in doing the right things.
Furthermore, as Christians celebrate the birth of the Holy Christ, Zakariya Kyaso wishes Nigerians a Merry Christmas and a Prosperous New Year.
