Hours after the February 2023 Nigerian presidential and National Assembly elections, the independent national electoral commission (INEC) begins results collation and the announcement of citizens’ votes in the country.
Katsina, one of the strong hopes for both the ruling All Progressive Congress and the Peoples Democratic Party in northwestern Nigeria, PDP’s Atiku lead the APC’s Tinubu after INEC announced results.
The candidate of the people’s democratic party, Atiku Abubakar, defeated Bola Ahmed Tinubu of the ruling all-progressive Congress in the Nigerian president’s home state with about 6,762 votes.
Mr Bola Ahmed Tinubu sweeps about 21 local governments with 482, 283 votes, while Atiku Abubakar polled a total vote of 489,045 in 13 local governments, with the New Nigerian People’s Party’s candidate Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso getting 69,386 votes from across the 34 local governments.
However, Muazu Abubakar, the returning officer of Katsina State, announced the results early Monday morning at the INEC office in the state.
Although the Nigerian president, Muhammad Buhari, earlier expressed hope that the former governor of Lagos State would sweep and win the election after casting his vote in Daura, where the APC won with a margin,
