Juventus resumed it’s Serie A campaign with a 2-0 win against Bologna at the Renato Dall’Ara Stadium on Monday, extending it’s lead at the top of the table to four points.
Juventus, who have won the past eight titles, are ahead of Lazio, who visit Atalanta on Wednesday.
Ronaldo gave the Old Lady the lead with a penalty after Matthijs de Ligt was fouled by Stefano Denswil.
Juventus continued to pile pressure on the home side and created a lot of chances to extend the lead.
Juventus doubled it’s lead in spectacular fashion when Paulo Dybala picked up a backheel from Federico Bernardeschi, before turning and hammering a shot into the top corner.
The result sees Maurizio Sarri’s side go four points clear at the top of the table with second-placed Lazio still having a game in-hand. Inter Milan remain third after their victory over Sampdoria on Monday.
Juve’s failure to score in two Coppa Italia games, coupled with their defeat on penalties to Napoli in Wednesday’s final, raised questions over Sarri, who has struggled to impose his style of play in his first season at the club.
There were no questions about the Juventus defence, however, which kept a fourth straight clean sheet in all competitions.
Speaking after the win, Juventus boss Sarri stated that criticism of him and his players since the restart has been “excessive.”
“In football and in life there are opinions and there are facts. If you listened to the opinions, you’d think this team was falling to pieces,” Sarri said.
“If you look at the facts, we’re top of the table. The criticism was excessive and that can act as motivation for us to get back in shape mentally even more than physically, which might take a little longer.”
