Scary: a health facility in Niger State threatens the patients’ and health personnel’s lives due to its deplorable conditions.
The facility, named Nyaguru MDG Clinic, located in the Tafa local government area of the state, suffers from authorities’ neglect, which led to its sorry state, as the hospital walls are reportedly cracking while sections of the ceiling have collapsed, exposing patients to rain and harsh sunlight.
Complaints by the residents of the community reveal that reptiles and other life-threatening animals are exposing citizens to danger, as they call on the state government to address the challenge.
Daily Episode gathered from Tracka’s release that the facility has been in this condition for more than five years, which has sometimes halted medical observations and other health interventions, as nurses reportedly place buckets inside treatment rooms to catch water that drips into the clinic during rainy weather.
According to the statement, “We found Nyaguru MDG Clinic in Tafa LGA, Niger state in a critical state of neglect. Sections of the ceiling have collapsed, exposing patients to rain and harsh sunlight. Rain water drips into the clinic, forcing health workers to place buckets inside treatment rooms.
“The clinic has remained in this condition for over 5 years without intervention. They lamented how they often have to travel to other towns to purchase basic supplies such as syringes, injections, and pain relief medications.
“This facility is meant to serve about 2,000 residents, yet it has only 3 bed stands, no drip stands (drips are improvised by hanging them on walls), no backup power supply, no functional laboratory or lab equipment.
“As a result, community members have to use private clinics or travel to the nearest community to access healthcare.
“We urge your office and the @NigerStateGOVT, National Primary Health Care Development Agency, and Federal Ministry of Health Nigeria to urgently rehabilitate, equip, and staff this facility. the statement added
