Former member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Hon. Jamilu Yahaya Aliyu, has responded publicly to his dismissal from the party by his ward and local government leadership in Kankara, Katsina State.
In a statement issued on Friday, Aliyu confirmed that he officially received notice of his removal from the party, describing the decision as expected given recent political developments.
According to him, the action followed closely after a public event he organised on Thursday, during which several political aspirants—including House of Assembly, Chairmanship, and Councilorship hopefuls—declared for a new coalition movement aimed at challenging the current political structure.
Aliyu said attempts had previously been made to expel him from the party, but those efforts had not materialised until now.
“I am aware of at least three meetings that were convened in the past with the intention to dismiss me, but the needed support was not secured then. So, this outcome is not surprising,” he said in the statement.
He also raised concerns over what he described as inconsistent application of party rules. Aliyu pointed to the current member representing their constituency in the state House of Assembly, alleging that the lawmaker had openly supported a rival party during the Kankara/Faskari/Sabuwa election rerun without facing any disciplinary action.
“There are videos showing him questioning the leadership of the PDP, including His Excellency, Senator Yakubu Lado Danmarke. But no action was taken. No suspension, no dismissal,” he stated.
Aliyu argued that similar anti-party activities had occurred involving other PDP members in Kankara Local Government, yet the party leadership had not taken formal steps to address those cases. He questioned whether the silence indicated approval or internal alignment.
He noted that he would be granting a full interview in the coming days to share more details about the circumstances leading to his dismissal and the individuals he believes influenced the decision.
Despite the dismissal, Aliyu reaffirmed his commitment to what he called a broader movement for the future of the people in his constituency.
“Our movement remains on course. I remain committed to the cause, with or without the endorsement of any political party,” he said.
Aliyu’s statement comes amid shifting political alliances ahead of the next election cycle in Katsina State.
