The immediate past Chairman of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Kaduna state Council, Comrade Asma’u Yawo Halilu has distributed eggs to journalists in the state.
While distributing the eggs in her office on Wednesday, she disclosed that no fewer than 50 journalists benefitted from the gesture.
According to the past Chairman, it has become part of her to extend goodwill to colleagues of her constituent at all times, share love and ensure peaceful co-existence amongst journalist.
“There is love in sharing, I believe in unity and peaceful co-existence and when you have any opportunity to share anything with people, it will go a long way in strengthening your relationship and that’s exactly what we are doing.”
“As the immediate past Chairman, I exploited a certain opportunity that prevailed itself, it’s Ramadan and many stakeholders are willing to do giveaways, and when I was approached, I gladly received the gift and distributed amongst colleagues.”
“By God’s grace, journalist will benefit more of this gestures in future. We will continue to make use of every opportunity to help our colleagues.”
While applauding the sponsor, Asma’u disclosed that more journalists will benefit in other batches, as she promised that more things are coming including capacity training for journalists in the state.
We have been approached on various capacity trainings for journalists in Kaduna by some partners and friends of the media. We will also explore the opportunity so that our colleagues can benefit.”
While fielding questions from journalists, she encouraged them to be good ambassadors of journalism practice, and always be fair in their reportage in the interest of peace, unity and oneness of the country.
“As journalists, we are powerful, and we need to understand such power that we have as the fourth estate of the realm. And this is the reason we must ensure we use the power of the pen in right way,” she stressed.
Meanwhile, in their separate remarks, the beneficiaries lauded the charismatic nature of the immediate past Chairman, while also encouraging her not relent in her efforts of being good at all times.
