The body of the former President of the United States of America, and 2002 Nobel Peace Prize winner, President Jimmy Carter, who passed away on 29 December 2024 at the age of 100, arrived in the US Capitol on Tuesday in a solemn military procession.
President Carter, who was recognised for his humanitarian work since he left office as the president of the United States, will lie in state until a national funeral on Thursday.
However, the arrangement began in Georgia, the former president’s home state, while his flag-draped casket was flown to Washington on a presidential jet from the US Navy memorial.
Daily Episode gathered that Carter’s casket travelled along Pennsylvania Avenue to the Capitol so his 977 inauguration parade will be retraced as a memory.
Hundreds of service members accompanied the procession, and military pallbearers carried the casket into the Capitol Rotunda, where dignitaries, including Vice President Kamala Harris, gathered for a service.
US Vice President Kamala Haris and other service members, in their hundreds, gathered to accompany the procession of the late former president. At the same time, military pallbearers carried the casket of the late President Jimmy Carter around the capital’s Rotunda.
As announced, late President Jimmy Carter will be laid to rest in Plains, Georgia, next to his late wife, Rosalynn, while anticipating the presence of President Joe Biden and all former US presidents as an honour at Carter’s state funeral, which is scheduled to be held at the National Cathedral.
Further, flags will remain at half-staff for 30 days in honour of President Jimmy Carter.
