Following a threat and a fresh demand by the abductors of the Abuja-Kaduna train passengers, families, and relatives of the victims staged a peaceful protest in the Kaduna metropolis to demand government action and compliance to the terrorist demand.
It will be recalled that dozens of passengers were abducted by terrorist groups of armed bandits linked to factional groups of Boko-Haram (ISWAP) terrorists on March 28, 2022.
The terrorists had earlier contacted the publisher of the Desert Herald Newspaper, Malam Tukur Mamu, and given a seven-day ultimatum with the threat of killings and hunger strikes to the captives.
The terrorists, who demanded a prison swap as a major condition to freeing the captives, noted that the Nigerian troops arrested their commandants in Adamawa state, from which they must be freed unconditionally.
Failure to comply with their demand will result in the killing of the captives one after the other.
The bandits also disclosed that their threat halted the resumption of the Abuja-Kaduna train and not the call of the victim’s families.
However, some of the families lamented the government’s inaction while pleading with the government to honor the demands of the terrorist groups.
The government is yet to commend the threat of the terrorist, although the Nigerian president, Muhammadu Buhari, had earlier given a matching order to the security operatives to ensure the safe rescue of the victims and bring the terrorist to justice.
