The Kano State Karate Association has trained about 200 operatives of Kano State Hisbah Board on martial arts for self-defence.
The spokesman of the board, Lawal Ibrahim-Fagge, made the disclosure in a statement on Thursday.
The statement quoted the board’s Commander-General, Harun Ibn-Sina, as saying that the operatives were in the best position to undergo various training on self-defence as they do not bear arms in the discharge of their duties.
The commander-general, who spoke during the presentation of a certificate of merit conferred on him by the karate association, added that the training would help them protect themselves in case of any hoodlums’ attack.
Speaking on the training, the visibly elated commander-general said: “I see this kind of action on TV.
“I thought they were unreal, just created for movie scenes until I see it myself. I have seen how my officers broke bricks with their bare hands without getting injured. This is impressive.”
“Our personnel are in the best position to receive this kind of training because they don’t bear arms while on duty to get rid of social vices in the society.
“So, this kind of training would help them protect themselves in case of attacks,” he added.
Mr Ibn-Sina, therefore, stressed the need for the corps to continually maintain the culture of body exercises in order to remain fit.
On the award, the commander-general stated that the recognition would not only boost his morale, but also the entire staff of the board towards effective services delivery, pledging to sponsor more Hisbah corps to the training exercise.
Earlier speaking, the leader of the karate association, Salisu Ibrahim, stated that a certificate of merit was presented to the leadership of the board in view of the role played in promoting sporting activities and development of karate among it’s corps members across the state.
Also known as She-Han, Mr Ibrahim said the award was also in recognition of hard work and commitment the present administration had put towards the development of karate in the state.
