Bauchi, Northeastern Nigeria—The Bauchi State Police Command has announced the arrest of 15 individuals linked to the violence that led to the attack on civilians and local vigilante groups.
The incident was geared by some restive youth in the Kandahar area of the Bauchi metropolitan area on the 18th of December, 2024, which recorded one individual sustaining injury while affecting a portion of public primary and secondary schools and the office of the Civilian JTF as it was set ablaze.
In a press release on Sunday, December 22, Ahmed Wakil, the Bauchi police public relations officer, disclosed that the gang group set off unrest in the community targeting the Civilian Joint Task Force (JTF) office near the Kandahar primary school.
Wakil noted that initially, “on the 18th of December, the JTF engaged the restive youth; after the encounter, the disgruntled youths regrouped and reinforced a violent attack on the Civilian Joint Task Force office and the public school.
Upon receiving a distress call from a good Samaritan, the state police commissioner, Cp Auwal Musa Muhammad, directed the police to respond promptly and directed the state criminal investigations department (SCID) to conduct a thorough investigation into the violence.
However, after the police intervention, normalcy was restored while a victim who sustained gunshots from a locally made gun, Sa’idu Musa, age 22, was rushed to the hospital for medical intervention.
The investigation is on as the fifteen suspects are already in police custody.
Now that normalcy has returned to the community, the commissioner of police urges citizens to refrain from violence as he assured every criminal must be brought to justice”. Wakili added
