As Christians around the world celebrate Christmas, a season marked by love, gifts, and happiness for Christians, the Country Director of Global Peace Foundation Nigeria (GPFN), Rev. Dr. Joseph John Hayab, has called for the end of the ongoing Israel-Palestine war.
Hayap made the call in Kaduna during a Christmas message to the world as he emphasized the importance of unity and harmony with one another regardless of religion or ethnicity.
However, while condemning the further escalation of the war, which is increasingly turning children into orphans while people are dying hopelessly, Rev. Hayap called for a ceasefire in the ongoing Israel-Palestine war while saying, “There is a need for restoration for peace in Palestine and Israel conflicts; so many lives have been lost, so many children have become orphans, and many people are still in the hospital. Anything we will do, anything the Palestinians and Israelis will do, anything the United Nations will do for peace to be restored in this place, we should do it.
We cannot continue to waste future leaders, future prominent citizens, and future scientists due to this war that has continued and seems not to be ending”.
While appealing to the government and charitable organizations to ensure dignity and respect in all aid distributions. Hayab also expressed this concern over the recent tragic stampede that claimed the lives of over 200 Nigerians seeking food aid.
According to him, “lives have been lost when we begin to count numbers we are almost getting to 100 if not more that have died due to stampede.
I think those who are sharing food are also not respecting the dignity of the less privileged because it is not fair. Why should they allow people to suffer and have to push to the extent we will have a stampede?
I condemn those who are sharing without proper organization; therefore, I call on Nigerian securities to investigate what happens; if the fault is on those who organize the program, they should be investigated”.
He also charged the Nigerian government to resolve ongoing conflicts that have resulted in food insecurity and the displacement of hundreds of citizens in the country.
