Amidst pressure on the Nigerian government, in which citizens are expressing their grievances since the release of Daily Trust reports on the Samoa agreement signed by the Tinubu-led administration, the Kano state government has cleared the air on its stand of not supporting the agreement.
Speaking at the closing ceremony of a seminar organised for Islamic clerics in Kano State by the Saudi Embassy, the state commissioner of religious affairs, Hon Sani Auwalu Ahmed Tijjani who represented the Kano State governor, Abba Kabir Yusuf, disclosed that the Kano State government is 100% against signing the controversial satanic Samoa agreements.
According to him, “it is against our religious values, culture, and norms; it is against any moral principles or decency; and it is against the wishes and aspirations of Kano people, and as a responsible government, we stand by the wishes and aspirations of our people.
We are against anything that negates our religious, religious teaching, cultural values, and morality; in whatever case, we say no to Samoa agreements, and we shall remain so.” He added.
However, in another move, the national assembly “house of representatives” called on the governments to suspend the implementation of the Samoa Agreement. This is coming shortly after a motion by the Hon. Aliyu Madaki, in which the parliaments assigned a special task to a committee in the parliaments to investigate the suspicious LGBTQ involvement in the agreement.
Recall that the federal government, in a joint press conference by the minister of information and culture, Muhammed Idris, and the minister of budget and economic planning, Atiku Bagudu, decried the report by the Daily Trust, in which they denied signing any agreements that will ensure the rights of the LGBTQ in Nigeria.
However, the governor also calls the attention of the religious leaders who receive the training during the three-day seminar organised by the Saudi embassy in Kano to spread the knowledge to guide and benefit citizens.
According to him, one of the key aspects of this seminar has been the promotion of intellectual exchange and mutual learning in a world that is increasingly interconnected. It is essential that Islamic scholars and imams remain open to new ideas and perspectives.
This does not mean compromising our beliefs, but rather enriching our understanding and finding common ground with others. Dialogue and intellectual exchange are powerful tools for bridging gaps and fostering a sense of unity and mutual respect.
The importance of education in Islam cannot be overemphasised; the Qur’an itself began with the command to read, highlighting the significance of knowledge and learning. Therefore, we advise you to apply what we learn in our daily lives and activities. He added.
