The Rivers State House of Assembly has given Governor Siminalayi Fubara 48 hours to submit the budget for 2025 to the legislators. The lawmakers made this request during their session in Port Harcourt on Monday.
On January 2, Governor Fubara submitted the ₦1.1 trillion 2025 budget to legislators led by Victor Oko-Jumbo.
However, months later, the Supreme Court determined that Martin Amaewhule and his colleagues were legitimate members of the Rivers State House of Assembly, resolving the leadership crisis that had divided the assembly.
The Supreme Court also instructed the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) to withhold funds allocated to Rivers State for failing to comply with court directives. Additionally, it cancelled the local government elections that had taken place in the state the previous year.
In response, Fubara mandated the Rivers State Independent Electoral Commission to organise new local government elections. He also directed the outgoing local government chairpersons to officially transfer authority to the Heads of Local Government Administration by Monday, March 3, 2025.
