Banditry in Zamfara
The terrorist group of armed bandits has launched a series of attacks on Zamfara communities.
The recent reports of massacres, kidnappings, and cattle rustling are growing in Zamfara State, despite the sign of containment orders, and deployment of troops from the Nigerian Army, Air force, and men of the Nigerian police.
With the containment order, the authorities have restricted the movement and activities of motorcycles; Shut down telecom services; Markets, and schools with the hopes of restoring normalcy that would bring an end to banditry in Zamfara and neighboring states.
From the reports, not less than 40 bodies have been buried so far, while many people are still missing following the onslaught on Sakajiki and Kurya Madaro Villages in Kaura Namoda Local Government Area of Zamfara State.
Sakajiki village was attacked by armed bandits on Thursday 14th and Saturday 16 October 2021.
The bandits broke into the town on the 14th, firing sporadically at the villagers; more than eleven people were killed, and about seventeen houses and fifteen cars were burned during the raid.
No one was kidnapped during the attack, but several others were injured as the bandits looted shops and rustled more than 100 cows and sheep.
While on the 16th, the bandits sent a letter notifying the villagers of their return. The villagers alerted the military deployed, and the police authorities, but neither took any real action.
However, the bandits invaded the village around 5 pm, firing indiscriminately; an unspecified number of people were killed, including troops of the Nigerian army.
The bandits ransacked the police station in the community, looted food for troops, and carted away weapons from the Nigerian troops at their settlement.
After the incident at Kurya Madaro village on the 5th, roughly eighteen persons were buried, more than 12 vehicles were destroyed, and seven buildings were burned.
Similarly, bandits assaulted troops of the Nigerian army in Anguwan Wazaman, Tsafe local government area, killing around five soldiers.
More than 1,000 people have so far fled Sakajiki and Kurya Madaro to the state capital, Gusau.
The Nigerian police spokesperson in Zamfara did not reply to a Daily Episode call while this report was being written.
