Over a thousand villagers flee from Tashar Biri Village in Yatumaki of Dan Musa local government area of Katsina State as bandits threaten to raid the village over the alleged killing of a notorious bandit, Gwaska, by security personnel.
Daily Episode gathered that Gwaska was trapped and arrested while visiting Sabira, a teenage girl whom he had forced to marry.
As a result, the bandits demanded the villagers either submit Sabira and her mother or pay the sum of N30 million Naira as a levy, or risk being killed brutally as a reprisal for the killing of the notorious Gwaska.
However, in the absence of Sabira, the bandits kidnapped Sabira’s grandmother and her son Aliyu, who are still captive, days after Gwaska was killed.
The bandits are settlers in the Gadawa area, according to a resident Anas Aliyu, who believes they are based in Katsale, a popular bandit base led by a notorious bandit leader named Mai Lore, who has been ransacking villages around Danmusa and neighboring local governments.
They have already rustled our cows and other animals. Many have been kidnapped and released for ransom, and no one has guaranteed to survive their planned attack. Therefore, we have evacuated our comfortable houses to nearby villages.
Although some have moved to towns, while some have traveled to other states, as we lack IDP camps in the whole of Katsina state.
As I am talking to you now, I am in Yantumaki, and it is a pity to tell you that no one is left in our villages. We are even scared to go back and take away our belongings and crops, “he added.
Recall that bandits have recently carried out deadly attacks in Guga, Bakori local government, and Magama community in the Jibiya local government area, where police and a civilian lost their lives.
The Katsina police public relations officer did not respond to a question asked by Daily Episode correspondents concerning the killings of the notorious bandits.
