A notorious gang leader, Puky, known for destabilising peace in the Anantiagha Community, Calabar South Local Government Area of Cross River State, has been fingered for raping a minor.
Daily Episode gathered from CrossRiverWatch that suspects allegedly raped a 13-year-old JSS 3 teenage girl in her parents’ home located at Uyi Effiong Street in Anantiagha Community.
According to a source who pleaded anonymity, the suspect was seen forcefully dragging the victim to a room in her parents’ compound to engage in the crime on Saturday, 9 August 2025. Helplessly, people around could not act for fear of being butchered or killed by the suspect, said the source.
“Puky is a notorious cultist who has been terrorising the Anantiagha community, Uyi Effiong Street specifically, for years now, and minors are his pleasure drives.
Recently, Puky raped a 13-year-old girl; he dragged her into their house while her mother was away, knowing that the mother stayed alone with the girl in the house. It’s too tragic that we are witnessing an inhuman act. The source continues.
However, when the mother was fed the unfortunate news, she confronted Puky, but couldn’t get any response from him; believing they were helpless, nothing would happen to him
The neighbours watched when he dragged the girl; they did nothing. They couldn’t help for fear of the unknown. This is how powerful the suspect is. The source continues.
In the past, Puky has butchered a minor; the victim’s family had to flee their home out of fear.
Police authority in the state could not confirm to Daily Episode the incidents. SP Irene Ugbo, the state police public relations officer, told this reporter that “there have been many reported cases of rape recently across the state.
“Although we have launched a crackdown on cultism, which has been a major security threat bedevilling citizens across Cross River State, and with the efforts of the police, the crime has drastically reduced.
“We are currently battling the issue of rape, which has been a serious menace due to the volume of cases we receive daily.
“So I can’t confirm the exact one you are calling for; all I can say is, yes, rape is a serious issue in Cross River, and we are working to fight it and bring all perpetrators to face the wrath of the law.” SP Ubgo added.
Shockingly, per the CrossRiverWatch, the suspect was arrested several times for different crimes; unfortunately, he’s constantly been released, which is worrying and threatening to citizens’ security.
Findings by CrossRiverWatch revealed that the suspect is untouchable, as he has been arrested and released many times.
However, the victim’s family, who are yet to get justice, urge authorities to take swift action to ensure the suspect faces the wrath of the law.
