On Monday, May 16, 2022, a northern pressure group, the Northern Youth Council of Nigeria, has called on the Nigerian anti-graft agency, the economic and financial crime commission, DSS, police, and the competent court of law to arrest and prosecute Alhaji Liman Isah Kantigi, a governorship aspirant in Niger state.
According to a statement by the group president, Comrade Isah Abubakar, Mr. Kantigi, who served as one-time Chairman of Edati Local Government Council 2011-2013, ALGON Chairman and Commissioner, Ministry of Local Government, Community Development and Chieftaincy Affairs, Niger State 2014-2015, was accused of misappropriation of funds in a judgment by a federal high court in Abuja that found him and three others guilty.
The trial was done while Mr. Kantigi fled the country to avert arrest and prosecution on charges levied against him. Isah added that it is regrettable for a political party to consider giving a person with corrupt allegations a membership ticket.
However, 24 hours after the allegations, the Director-General, Media and Publicity of the Northern Youth Council of Nigeria, Mr. Mock Kure, denied the accusations in a press briefing at Arewa House, Kaduna.
According to Kure, the Northern Youth Council of Nigeria remains apolitical and will never be involved in matters relating to politics or otherwise.
He further explained that the organization NYCN has finalized to suspending its president, Comrade Isah Abubakar, for violating its constitutional lines and ethics.
Isaiah has violated our standing rules by interfering in political matters that concern the affairs of Niger state indigence without the mandate of the union, so therefore, anything contained in the earlier press statements purely represents him and not the Northern Youth Council of Nigeria. He said
While answering questions from journalists, Mr. Mock Kure confirmed that the second in command will now take over from Isah and will henceforth address the media.
While the group engages in a leadership crisis over politics, both Alhaji Liman Isah Kantigi and the People’s Democratic Party are yet to respond to the issue as efforts to communicate with the both by Daily Episode correspondent returns in vain.
