As workers around the world celebrated 1st May, which was marked as Workers Day around the world Workers in Nigeria decried the poor conducive working situation across the country.
Like many others in Kaduna, Northwest Nigeria. Hundreds of Nigerian workers converge at the Ahmadu Bello Stadium in the early hours of the day to celebrate the resilience of workers amidst the struggle for minimum wage.
However, as workers in Nigeria cry about dehumanization, abuse of conduct, and acts of civil service rule, the Nigerian Labour Congress and Trade Union Congress, as well as other 32 affiliate unions, collaborate in urging employers to prioritize workers’ welfare and job security in the country.
To this end, the Kaduna State Chairman of the Nigerian Labour Congress, Comrade Ayuba Suleiman, noted that workers in Kaduna have suffered in the last eight years of the current administration of Malam Nasir Ahmed Erlufai for the mass sacking of teachers and other civil servants in the state.
According to him, labour laws are being violated, and as such, the governor-elect must not emulate the leadership style of his predecessor, who would be sworn into office.
While Comrade Yunusa Mohammed of the Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities laments the poor welfare package for workers, according to him, the current salary standard in the country does not meet the current standard of living in the country.
