Kano, Northwest Nigeria — admits the campaign to improve child immunisation, which curtails the rising cases of meningitis, measles, diphtheria, and other life-threatening diseases that increase the child mortality rate across the globe. New Incentives, a non-governmental organisation working to increase infantile vaccination through cash transfers, raising public awareness, and reducing the frequency of vaccine stockouts, has recognised the performance of key players in delivering efficient immunisation across Kano State.
The organisation revealed it has spent about N1.4 billion to support vaccination while enrolling no fewer than 520,000 infants in the state.
During a ceremony organised to honour the individuals contributing to child immunisation by the New Incentives in collaboration with the state government, Mr. Mubarak Bawa, the New Incentives Operations Coordinator, revealed the impact of their All Babies Are Equal campaign.
According to him, “we are on a mission to save lives, of which we have been on the journey since the year 2017, and through that, we have actively engaged locals through local government and state government to provide cash insensitives to boost child vaccination in northern Nigeria.” He stated
“We are pleased to identify Nassarawa, Tsanyawa, Dawakin Tofa, Takai, and Minjibir local governments for their selfless contributions to the vaccination programme, and today we recognised and honoured them with an award for their contributions to saving lives.
However, we outline some mechanisms that give us a comprehensive understanding of the performance of local governments in the vaccination process by incorporating factors such as their area of coverage, enrollment figures, documentation practices, and effectiveness in reducing disease spread. The process doesn’t only serve as the basis for our recognition process; it also ensures a thorough assessment of their impact and effectiveness.
Beside the best-performing local government, we also recognise individual performance, in which the selected persons will receive rewards for their participation, commitment, and selfless service among health personnel”. Bawa added
What the Award Meant for Us: Interview with the Recipients
I couldn’t believe my work can be recognised or the efforts and our commitment to the vaccination are being monitored. I am extremely happy to stand as a beneficiary of this award today, Kamilu Ahmed Musa, who was confirmed as the best NI-ABAE manager in Kano, by the New Insensitives revealed.
Per Kamilu, I wish others would emulate and do better than us, not for reward or award purposes but for humanity and an open reality that can help in eradicating the life-threatening, consuming lives of babies and humans daily.
I can’t believe it, but all praise and glory be to Allah, who gives me the opportunity to witness today. I thank the management of New Incentives and the Kano State government for the opportunity, Kamilu added.
Our Commitment and Continue Support for Vaccination and Efficient Healthcare Delivery—Kano Government.
With support from the New Incentives we have to work to recognise individuals and local governments doing well in the vaccination process. I believe this is an eye-opener in which the state government is making more commitment to providing healthcare delivery to citizens, as the Director General of the of the Kano State Primary Healthcare Management Board, Dr. Nasir Mahmoud, stated in an interview shortly after the event on Thursday, May 9, 2024, in Kano.
I assure you that the government, agencies, and all health care sectors will improve service, especially as such events improve performance and service delivery. Nasir added.
