Stakeholders within the Oyo State State chapter of the All Progressive Party, APC, has vowed to resist all attempts by the incumbent Governor of Oyo State, Seyi Makinde to defect from the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP to the APC.
The stakeholders, under the auspices of Oyo Solidarity Forum, OSF, Oyo Progressive Resolute, OPR and Oyo Sustainable Development Movement, OSDM made this known after a a meeting on Monday in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital.
In a statement signed by Johnson Olooto, Shina Alubankudi, Waheed Olarenwaju, Sunday Olododo, Ibrahim Arikewusola and David Arapaja, Chairmen and Secretaries of the groups respectively, they described the planned defection of the Governor as an exercise in futility.
“Seyi Makinde has been rejected by his party, the PDP and its leadership in the Southwest and he is looking for a soft landing in APC”
” He has always claimed to be popular. He should go and stake his popularity in any of the political parties in the country and not the APC where he has elevated his attacks on the APC and its leadership to a state policy ” they said.
The groups also stated that the Governor is not to be trusted as can be seen in his abandonment of the coalition and people who made his election possible.
“All the people who helped Seyi Makinde to power are no longer with him. Former Governor Ayodele Fayose who was the person that handed over the PDP flag to him as party flag bearer, today, Makinde is at loggerheads with him. His antics has left his party, the PDP in Oyo State more divided and many have deserted him. He would be an albatross on the neck of the APC in Oyo State and we will resist his attempt to join our party” the statement concluded.
