To curtail traffic collisions and reckless and underage driving in the country, the Road Transport Employers Association of Nigeria has called on Nigerians to be cautious and desist from patronizing commercial cars from unverified terminals.
The statement was made by Ambassador Muhammad Abubakar Bishara, the deputy national president of the Road Transport Employers Association of Nigeria (RETAN) while inaugurating the newly elected officials of the Kaduna state chapter of the association at Arewa House in Kaduna, northwest Nigeria.
According to him, insecurity and the deplorable condition of roads have affected the entire service of road users, especially commercial vehicles, owners, and drivers with a significant number of passengers, which has resulted in a sorry state of the economic system that pushes Nigerians to suffer hardships.
Although we have seen improvement in the security system, many perpetrators have been arrested, and some of the roads that were closed are now safer for travel.
Recently, our synergy with the security agencies has proven that commercial vehicle drivers, especially the Road Transport Employers Association of Nigeria, contribute positively to national development. He explained
Garba Lawal, the Kaduna acting sector command of the Federal Road Safety Corps, congratulated the newly elected members of the union as he urged drivers and the union to maintain road regulations, especially now that the ember months are approaching.
According to him, drivers have violated so many rules, especially the overloading of both passengers and goods, which has resulted in the loss of lives and property many times.
But with the leadership and the caliber of people being inaugurated today, I believe we shall continue to collaborate to eradicate this menace that is a threat to the nation.
Also, the Director of Finance, Kaduna State Transport Regulatory Authority (KATRA), Lawal Musa, who issued certificates of return to the 196 newly elected executives, calls on Nigerians to desist from reckless driving to ensure lives are not lost.
The government is committed to ensuring the transportation industry has achieved the desired goal. He added
